 Peter Boers was born
on
the 30th of January 1971 in Amstelveen. He studied Biology, but decided after his graduation that he wanted
to work in another field, in which he succeeded.
Peter is an enthusiastic
photographer. This started already when he was thirteen
years old. On his anniversary he got his first snapshot
camera. With lots of joy he started photographing right
away in his place of residence, but he enjoyed
photographing nature the most.
At the age of 20 Peter
started combining photography with other passions: he
became a real mountaineering freak and discovered
travelling to other countries and cultures. During two
summer coarses in the Alps and the Pyrenees (respectively
concerning walking and climbing in alpine and rock terrain) Peter learned
the basic techniques for
making hikes and climbs in the mountains. Of course he
always brought his camera with him and made his first
photographs 'on altitude'. Peter was astounded by the
many colours of white and blue of the snow and ice
formations he saw and was passionate to photograph them
together with stunning rock formations.
In
the following years he combined photography, travelling
and mountaineering even more and more. In 1993, he walked from
the three-country-point (the Netherlands, Germany,
Belgium) to Venice (in Italy)- about 800 miles - and photographed
everything he
saw. When he passed the Alps he climbed several
mountains. The next summers he went to the Alps and
Dolomites and made a lot of solo-climbs, always
photographing the mountain. He also travelled
through Israel (1996) and Egypt (1998).
In 1999 Peter discovered
'klettersteigen', a mixed form of climbing and hiking,
where the dangerous parts of the route are protected
with steel cables and ladders. Since this introduction
Peter was very excited about
this form of mountaineering for about three years. In
2000 he also travelled through Nepal and in 2001 he made
a journey through Norway with his brother Bertil and friend Michiel.
Both times again he shot lots of photos of all his experiences.
Inspired by Bertil en Michiel, Peter started filming,
but photography still remained more important for him.
When Peter met his wife
Claudia in 2003 he decided it was time to stop the
(rather dangerous solo-) climbs. As a result of this, they had
more time left for travelling and photography: in 2003 they visited
Edinburgh and in 2004 they travelled through the north
and middle of Portugal. In
2005 they visited Praque and made a journey through Costa Rica where they
visited several national parks. In 2006 they decided
to visit Seveilla (in Spain) and several national parks in the middle of the
US (among them Arches, Canyonlands, Grand Canyon,
Yellowstone and the Rocky Mountains). Meanwhile both
Peter and Claudia had bought digital SLR-cameras so they
returned with thousands of pictures. In 2008 the couple
visited Paris and the middle of Germany. That same year
Peter also went to Istanbul for photography.
In his spare time, Peter
is usually outside. He likes to run, cycle, walk and
take pictures. In addition, he likes to edit Photos and spends much time
on their daughter Laura, who was
born on August 2007. Peter is also the author of the
website 'On Top'.
